The Festival de théâtre des Amériques (FTA), under the artistic direction of Marie-Hélène Falcon, is a festival of contemporary works that takes place in Montreal, highlighting the most innovative creative artists of our time.

Starting in May 2007, the FTA will become an annual festival featuring contemporary dance and theatre.
This festival will be interdisciplinary, international, intercultural and intergenerational, in the image of the arts in Montreal, which are open to the world. This feast for the mind and the senses will bring spectators and artists to the heart of the action, placing them more than ever at the cutting edge of contemporary trends in the arts.

Since its inception in 1985, the FTA has presented 231 shows from 31 countries and reached over 575,000 individuals. A forum for exchange and reflection on the performing arts, the FTA is also host to round table discussions, staged readings and movies.

Over the years, the FTA has been honoured by visits from great artists such as Peter Brook, Ariane Mnouchkine, Robert Wilson, Elisabeth LeCompte, Robert Lepage, Marie Chouinard, Frank Castorf, Reza Abdoh, Peter Sellars, Richard Foreman, Denis Marleau, Deborah Warner, Tadeusz Kantor, Pol Pelletier, Antunes Filho, Anatoli Vassiliev, Wajdi Mouawad, Silviu Purcarete, Christoph Marthaler, Romeo Castellucci, Jacques Lassalle, Alain Platel, Eimuntas Nekrosius, Alain Françon, Jan Lauwers, Dave St-Pierre and Rodrigo García, to name but a few.

The new festival that will makes its début in May 2007 is a natural outgrowth of the evolution of the FTA. Every year, this event will feature theatre and dance artists who transform and rejuvenate the very forms and vitality of the contemporary performing arts.
