Theatre of combat
Designed to charm, shock and disturb, its purpose is to upset the applecart of safe, clean theatre, throwing us headfirst into furiously appealing works that reduce our conventional theatregoing habits to ashes. It comes via a name to remember — Rodrigo García. An Argentine who moved to Spain after experiencing dictatorship in his native land, this playwright, director and sculptor of space and sound founded La Carnicería Teatro (Butcher Shop Theatre) with the aim of understanding the truth of the human body. Recalcitrant for some yet radically innovative for others, García and his audacious actors take risks with disturbing work that ventures far from the usual comfort zone to give meaning, in a form both pertinent and extraordinary, to the chaos of our era. After Sun is without doubt one of the most impassioned and fiery new works of recent years. Watch out for sunburn!

A wild and crazy performance where the ketchup flows freely, much like the blood that spills in television newscasts. After Sun questions the disasters of our era, in great big festive fashion...

Rodrigo García and La Carnicería Teatro
An Argentine who moved to Madrid in 1986, Rodrigo García manages to seduce and to shock at the same time. He could well have become a playwright and director like many before him, moving with intelligence from his own plays to the works of Müller, Bernhard, Handke or Auden. However, this man of the theatre is also a set designer, a videographer and an installation artist. The path taken by this remarkably original artist reflects his atypical background. After studying philosophy and literature, a first prize win in a playwrighting competition soon led him to producing his own work, which he financed from his earnings in the advertising industry. He founded la Carniceria in 1989. A good dozen years later, it is apparent that this play is fiercely personal, disconcerting and provocative by nature, not by design. His work has been translated into several languages and performed in many different countries, and includes some fifteen plays as well as videos, exhibitions and theatrical installations. He has also directed some twenty plays.
